What is a Demand Response Program?
Demand response programs shift a customer’s energy consumption to better balance the demand for power with the supply from the energy grid. By adjusting a customer's thermostat set point even just a few degrees during peak times of year, i.e. the hottest summer or coldest winter days, stress on the energy grid is reduced.
Why should I enroll?
Customers enrolled in demand response programs grant utility companies limited control of their thermostat. During peak hours, the utility company will increase the thermostat set point (cool event) or decrease it (heat event) by a couple degrees. Some programs may also have a pre-cool or pre-heat period to help keep customers more comfortable throughout the event. Customers that participate in a program are eligible for special savings or incentives at certain times of year.
